The people of the manor are conditioned to be absolutely loyal to the rules of the Shadows House. If the rules determine that someone is to be disposed of, then that is accepted without question.
It's not entirely self-sufficient, although it is a mostly-isolated community.
The Shadows family act as feudal lords over the surrounding lands. Within the manor... I'm not sure how many people there are in total, but in the children's wing there are 50 members of the shadow nobility, 49 human servants who act as their direct attendants, and an unknown number of additional servants.
I just hope we can do better the next time the cult tries something... It's good to mourn, but it would be better to have less casualties in the first place.
[ He sighs, running a hand over his face. Tired. Just absolutely tired. ]
For the amount of information we didn't have from the beginning, we managed to do well by figuring out that particular mystery so quickly. It's a really short amount of time to do that, especially stuck as we were. Everyone's organisational efforts helped...
But the implication that there's still another around worries me. I spoke with War last night too, to try to get more clarification on the rituals, the problem of the monster affliction...
Like that if it ever became necessary, if we had tied on names, then both would enter the pyre.
[ And the fact that that can happen at all and presumably, both would die, rather than a more favourable option like the monster gets nuked but both people survive, kinda sucks. ]

Where I live...

...This "Shadows House" -- it's a commune?
[ Sounds like a lot of people live there maybe...? For it to be a repeating burden. ]

Right. And you're one of the shadow nobility?

Yes.

It sounds pretty rough, watching that kind of thing play out around you.
...
You've got a kind heart.

... Thank you.

Insights, uncertain. Clarifications, a few.
Like that if it ever became necessary, if we had tied on names, then both would enter the pyre.

And both of those people would die, in exchange for the assurance that neither of them would kill again.

Though at that point, calling it an "assurance" feels more like justification.

I would rather try to find another way.

...
We might not have bodies, but there's other things we can leave in their place, I think.
You'd have to get crafty, but.

Camille mentioned that too. I think it's a good idea. They deserve to be remembered.

Rocks, a couple of sticks... shouldn't be too hard.
