If it's a ritual sacrifice, it may be something that requires some preparation.

[recession]

Not to give anyone ideas, but you'd normally leave the live portion towards the end of the preparations so they don't get any ideas.

I guess there's something to be said for the sheer audacity of permitting forty people to run around with weapons.

That... also makes very little sense.

Does the ritual need a dog? Would any animal sacrifice suffice, instead of using people? There should be some logic...

He is a very smart dog... but it's undeniably a little ridiculous. Unless the ritual required a little spot of animal blood?

No point in trying to figure out the ritual's rhyme and reason though. Our focus should be to escape.

True... It would just be easier to predict the enemy's moves if I could understand anything about their methods.

Rest assured, escape is my greatest priority.

Clearly, they enjoy the method and show of the ritual even if it's ineffective.

[ The robes, the flower crowns, the ridiculous fire and them all around it in a circle. A lot of work for what. ]

So maybe they'll be too busy preening and pruning the fine details while we work out some solutions.
