Doesn't that depend on where you are? It's probably dangerous to be barefoot in some areas.

And the sand never gets too hot for you to walk on?

That's what sandals are for, dude. Protect the bottoms of your feet, but don't stifle 'em.

Yeah, but what about the sides of your feet? Don't you ever sink into the sand sometimes?

[this is such a stupid conversation, but it's likely she's doing it on purpose to try and keep his mind a little less heavy from the events of the last few weeks.]

Hey, I've only been to a beach...twice now! [proud of herself.] And both times it was still hard to get off if I didn't wear my boots. Besides, aren't your option to either walk into the ocean and then walk across the sand again or stay sandy until you get somewhere else to wash it off?

[she doesn't think it's too bad but to be fair to her the last time they were on a beach before coming here she got trapped in a glass prism with the threat of being taken away somewhere so. you know. it's easier to think about this stuff. she's fine with playing dumb for conversation's sake.]

If it isn't obvious, I know absolutely nothing about Hawaii. Never even heard of it before you mentioned it.
